We have soon been a week in the beautiful Dabas Parks Piejura, located north of Latvia’s capital, Riga. The area is characterized by vast forest areas and lovely beaches. We have been swimming in the Baltic Sea and even found amber! We chose this area because a coastal train runs several times a day from Riga to here. Therefore, we could easily come out to the countryside and walk the last meters to the apartment with our luggage. Today, we took the train in the opposite direction – to the town of Carnikava by the Gauja River. We visited the small cozy museum that showed how people used to fish for eels in the river in the old days. We also saw the memorial for the fallen in the Great Patriotic War – World War II. Tomorrow, we will head to the beach again here in the lovely village of Garciems.
