Travelling between Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and Riga, the capital of Latvia, is unfortunately not possible by direct train. We therefore opted for an alternative mode of transportation: a bus ride with Lux Express. While we eagerly await the revival of the train connection in the near future, our bus journey proved to be an enjoyable and convenient experience. Join us as we recount our adventure from Vilnius to Riga, exploring the beautiful Baltic region.

Boarding the Lux Express:

As we stepped aboard the Lux Express bus, we were greeted by comfortable seating, ample legroom, and large windows that offered panoramic views of the passing landscapes. The bus was well-maintained, clean, and equipped with amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi, buspads and power outlets, ensuring a pleasant and connected journey.

Leaving Vilnius behind, we marveled at the diverse sights along the route. The journey began with urban landscapes gradually giving way to picturesque countryside scenery. The lush green fields, quaint villages, and charming farmhouses provided glimpses into the region’s rural life. We were fortunate to witness the presence of numerous storks in the fields and nesting sites. These elegant birds, with their long legs and striking appearance, added a touch of natural beauty to our trip. It was a delightful sight to see them gracefully wading through the meadows or tending to their young in their nests.

Boarder passing:

As we approached the Lithuanian-Latvian border, our bus made a brief stop but there was no passport control.

After a comfortable ride, we arrived at our destination: Riga. Stepping off the bus, we were immediately enchanted by the city’s charm. Riga, known for its remarkable architecture and vibrant atmosphere, welcomed us with open arms. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was a treasure trove of historical buildings, cobblestone streets, and bustling squares.

Future perspectives:

While our bus journey between Vilnius and Riga was enjoyable, we eagerly anticipate the revival of the train connection between the Baltic capitals. Efforts are currently underway to restore the train service, with plans to open a new rail connection by 2030. This future development will undoubtedly enhance the convenience and connectivity of exploring the Baltic region.
